Through the years, Geraardsbergsestraat was the café street of Ninove. For nearly 20 years, Café Nostalgie has been a staple here. The name was not chosen randomly by owner Mehmet Cirpi. Once, it was the local of the Flemish old fighters (Het Vlaamsch Huis – still readable on the facade). In the 60s and 70s, it enjoyed a vibrant time as youth club Tien-Twen. For many Ninovieters, this building is pure nostalgia.
Mehmet himself is a familiar face in the town. Together with his brother Ramazan, he ran Café In De Keizer for many years before opening Nostalgie.
Also in De Croone Hotel across the street, there used to be a café. People could go to the ground floor to the Danish Café for - you guessed it - a refreshing Carlsberg.
