Various Latin artists placed the protected Koutermolen on canvas. Its origins date back to 1373 as property of the Saint Bavo's Abbey. Around 1900, the landscape was still vast and spacious. The mill is of the open post mill type with a closed base that stands on a small mill dam. It was thoroughly restored in 2012 and is the only remaining wooden grain windmill in the East Flemish Leie region.
