In the Church of Our Lady of Victories, you will find a remarkable group of statues that was donated in 1600 by Archduke Albert and Isabella. It depicts the little boat of Beatrijs Soeken.
Beatrijs Soetken had a vision in 1348 to steal a figurine in Antwerp. She rowed via the Scheldt and the Zenne back from Antwerp to the Zavel to bring the figurine to Brussels. However, the figurine was destroyed in 1580 by the Calvinists.
There is also said to be a deeper meaning behind this group of statues. It is also said to represent the sacred boat of the Egyptians that transports the deceased. You might recognize Isis with the sun god Re on her arm. Beatrijs would then be the sister Nephtys, and her husband Soetken the ferryman. The procession associated with this figurine is said to refer to the journey of Isis over the river of the dead.
