The Finisterraekerk plays a central role in the theft of the Just Judges. In a ransom note sent on April 13, 1934, a ransom was requested to be given at a location near this church. In a later ransom note, it is clearly stated that "un petit paquet" must be brought to this church, as you can read in this passage from the letter:
"It is simply a matter of going to pick up from Monsieur le Rév. Curé of the 'Saint-Laurent' church, Avenue Markgrave 95 in Antwerp, a small package and transmitting it, without revealing your identity, to the Rev. Curé of the Finistère church in Brussels. In Antwerp, no one will ask you for your address, it will be sufficient to present the attached envelope to him. You will thus serve as a 'go-between' for the transmission."
The then pastor of this church was Pastor Zech. He had a connection with Pastor Meulepas who would hand over the ransom and who lived in the rectory on Markgravelei in Antwerp. Meulepas and Zech were both professors at Sint-Aloysius in Brussels.
According to Christtian Stickx, Arsène Goedertier would have hidden the panel of the Just Judges here in the Finisterraekerk after he had placed the other part, the panel of Saint John the Baptist, in the North Station. He is said to have placed the panel of the Just Judges in the altar of the chapel of Our Lady of Good Success.
