On August 1, 1578, there must have been a tremendous amount of screaming and wailing here. A battle was fought between Rijmenam, Bonheiden, and Keerbergen as part of the Eighty Years' War. Nearly 2000 dead were said to have fallen here on both the Spanish and Dutch sides. But you wouldn't notice anything of that now.
