This walk starts at the paying parking place Albert 1, but in Dinant there are possibilities to park for free, for example at the abbey of Leffe (halfway through the walk).
The walk shows Dinant in a number of facets that most tourists do not discover. The section on the other side of the Maas is at least as spectacular in terms of views . Then she also goes to the heights of the citadel for spectacular views of the Meuse.
The walk first goes along the banks of the Meuse to the Church of Our Lady. A little further on is the house where Adolf Sax was born, which houses a small museum and the Adolf Sax monument.
We return along the beautiful quay to the Pont Général de Gaulle . This bridge is beautifully decorated with colorful saxophones. On the other side we can take a detour to the impressive war memorial that reminds us of the senseless slaughter of the first world war.
From the other side, at the statue of Charles De Gaulle , there is a spectacular view of Dinant from the church below to the citadel above.
Along the water we continue past the office de tourisme to the lock that we use to get back to the other bank. We see, among other things, the royal atheneum Adolf Sax.
A short detour to the Lady of Leffe Abbey and the beautiful brasserie 'Le Confessionnal' are well worth the effort.
Back along the Meuse to continue a little further to the Paternier statue.
The route takes a path along a city wall , which is quite difficult to descend at the end (stairs). It is easier to continue along Rue Saint-Pierre to Rue Saint-Jacques, but the path is more adventurous .
To see the panoramas over the Meuse , it now goes up to the car park of the Citadel via Rue Saint-Jacques. Those who want can take the 480 stairs to the téléphérique.
At the top we take a look at the military cemetery that reminds of the bloody murders of the First World War in Dinant. We follow the walk with the yellow square and pass the Tour de Monfat and the old téléphérique to a spectacular viewpoint. You can immediately zigzag down here along a forest path or along an easier path of the Calvary that passes a few chapels.
It continues to the cultural center with the tower of Mr. Sax and the Sint Nicolas church.
Be sure to also consult the information about the sights once you are there . They explain what you get to see!
