Description by the author

This is not a walk in downtown Bouillon, but it guarantees you a superb view of the city. Bouillon nestles in a narrow loop of the Semois and is surrounded by steep and wooded hills. One of these hills served as a base for the construction of an observation tower: from here you capture the famous city and its surroundings at a glance.

DISTANCE
About 6.5 km.

TYPE OF ROAD
Bituminous roads in the Semois valley, but exclusively of dirt forest paths and trails and with base coating for the rest. It takes quite a long time to climb the Moulin de l'Épine, followed later by a steep descent. In short: ideal for hikers who have a good eye, but imossible for families with strollers or wheelchairs. Even after rainy weather you don't need rubber boots.

MARKUP
For the first part – up to the Moulin de l'Épine – you follow not only the indications of the local walks, but also the white-red lines of the Grandes Randonnées Ardennes-Eifel trail. Then you have to climb to get out of the Semois valley following the local promenade 15 (red tiles raised to the black number 15). At the highest point you make a stage of the walk 93, but beyond the observatory tour another stage of the aforementioned trail of Great Hikes, which follows the same route as the local walk 2 (red-white-red rectangle extended to the black number 2). The itinerary only mentions these indications when they are really necessary.

PARKING
If you are coming from Bouillon to the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine – follow the signs to Cordemois – you can park in a relatively large car park, a little beyond the entrance to the convent.
