The Hoëgne – Foam at the foot of the Moors

From a small stream that is born in the wetlands, the Hoëgne grows into a river with a romantic yet also tumultuous character! If there is one thing you will not find during this walk, it is a straight line! You may even feel dizzy trying to follow the succession of bends that the teasing river makes. Cross over a wooden bridge and look down at a little waterfall or walk along a boardwalk to traverse a wetland area. The fun is undeniable: the railings and the stones on the path are worn by the many walkers who have passed here since the inauguration in 1899 by Queen Marie-Henriette! The landscapes display gloomy or bright hues, depending on whether the river crosses forests or heathland. At the Pont du Centenaire, you will come to ‘la Vecquée’, an old road that winds through the marshland. A more open landscape will accompany you to Solwaster, an Ardennes village in a natural environment, between wetlands and forests.
