From Raeren to Blegny

This route starts near the border of the Netherlands and Germany. You bike through particularly beautiful landscapes in an area with a rich history and fascinating heritage. Just past Raeren, you ride between the vast meadows and fields. It is a well-preserved piece of countryside, with a small forest here and there, hedges, and orchards. In the east of the Land of Herve, the hills are usually forested (beech and oak), while the lower-lying valleys, which are often moist, consist of pastures. From Raeren, you ride towards the Three Country Point. In Kelmis (La Calamine), you pass a pond and spoil tips. These are remnants of the former mining site, which is now covered with exceptional flora. Upon entering Hombourg, you come across the historical line 38. Coal was transported along this railway to the Liège industrial basin. From Froidthier, you follow the cycling junctions and the Berwinne, a beautiful stream. On the right lies the Abbey of Val-Dieu, the ideal place for a short stop. The last kilometers of this stage bring you to Mortroux and the village of Dalhem. A beautiful slope leads you to the top of the Blegny-Mine, a site recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
