Droes in Opwijk means as much as 'devil'. Droeshout' in turn stands for swampy forest. The walk leads you through the valley of the Puttenbeek, a tributary of the Great Mill Creek and one of the most natural and pure brooks in the region. It is the only place in Opwijk where a natural reed bed 'De Putten' of this surface occurs. According to various sources, the first settlements (stilt houses) would have originated in this area.
