The Eddy Merckx Cycling Route starts at the Boerenhof cycling café at the church of Meensel and takes you in a loop over the same roads where the young Eddy had his first cycling experience. This sporty route - 70 km - has its own signage. Prepare yourself for some stiff calves. So a rest now and then is welcome, especially if you can still catch some special sights. Along the way you will pass the Castle of Horst and the many orchards and vineyards in the region. The cycling god unveiled his own statue at his birthplace in Tieltsestraat in October 2015. Bent over his handlebars, gaze tightly forward, cheering supporters. As he is engraved in our collective memory.
