Description by the author

Dolembreux: to the cascades and the quarry of Chanxhe

Distance: 16 km
Elevation gain: 400 m
Surface: Mostly wide forest paths – often old hollow roads – and field paths, but also a number of steep stony trails that require a bit of surefootedness. One passage through a meadow. There are a few sections on paved roads, but they are very low traffic.
Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes
Difficulty level: Especially around Chanxhe the slopes are quite steep. Some passages are also technically a bit more difficult, making the walk somewhat tougher than average despite the distance.
Marking: You cannot make this walk based solely on local markings. We occasionally follow walk no. 9 from Sprimont, but deviate quite a bit from that.

Dogs: Always subject to change, allowed everywhere, but on a leash as you pass through various nature reserves.
Best period: We walked there at the beginning of October, and the early autumn coloration made the walk perhaps extra beautiful. Late summer may be just a bit less interesting, as the corn is then tall in places and can obstruct the view of the surrounding landscape.

Our verdict?

In the Condroz you can make beautiful walks, but it can sometimes become a bit dull if you have to walk too much along agricultural paths and between fields.
However, this walk never bored us for a moment. Beautiful panoramas, lovely hamlets, old hollow roads...
It could very well be one of our highlights this autumn!
