The fourth stage of our (Sworks_1977 and myself) journey to the tripoint from Antwerp. The other stages can be found in the linked group Antwerp - Tripoint.
It all started a few years after Belgian independence in 1831. A skipper from Antwerp was sailing along the Herentals-Bochelt canal. He was transporting sand and saw the white sand along the banks of the canal. It had remained there after the canal was excavated. He took a sample of the sand to his supplier, and it turned out to be of high quality. The skipper found that quite interesting, and that was the beginning of the extraction activities in the region.
This is where we are walking to from Kasterlee. A diverse landscape of forest, heath, meadows, streams, and canals is what we will encounter on this journey.
