Go hiking in the Flemish Nature Reserve 'Achelse Kluis'!
We made this hike on March 25th, 2025. (15,097 steps)
The starting point is at junction 68 on the parking lot 'Naturpoort Leenderbos'. The route runs mainly through the Warmbeek valley, which was renamed Tongelreep at the border with the Netherlands.
There is a lot to see during the hike. You walk through the De Bever area, where you can find working trenches made by beavers. Behind the building, there is an observatory of the Noorderkroon Achel association. Also, you can enjoy delicious farm ice cream at the watermill Het Mulke.
The route takes the hiker to the ruins of De Waag, where in earlier times, grain was weighed as a requirement.
Along the way, you can learn much more from signs.
After this beautiful hike, you can relax at the Achelse Kluis with a drink and a snack. For those who want to take a moment, there is also a small charming Maria chapel.
