Thorpark is an area of 10 km² behind the former Waterschei mine. The area has so many qualities that it will connect with the National Park. Here you will find everything that the High Kempen has to offer: coal hills amidst heath and pine forests, a beautiful stream valley, juniper bushes, and sandy dunes. Some notable buildings embellish the landscape: the children's colony of As and the coal mine of Waterschei (Thor Central). You can already walk extensively here, but a gateway in the well-known design of the other gates is (not) yet available.
