Kattenbos - green - 2.2 km

Let yourself be surprised by the green route, also known as the butterfly walk! This route is fully accessible for wheelchair users and strollers. The semi-paved path winds through the pine forest and offers a beautiful mix of pine forests, a serene pond, and a splendid piece of heath. Along the way, there are plenty of seating areas and picnic tables where you can relax and enjoy nature.
The butterfly walk features educational and fun play areas at various spots where young and old can learn more about the life of the butterfly in a playful way.
Kattenbos is a unique part of Lommel, rich in pine forests that gradually evolve into deciduous forests. In the heart of this area lies the 'Kattenbosser Heath', one of the most beautiful heathlands in Bosland, where the rare and mysterious nightjar breeds.
A stone's throw away from the starting point is the Leyssensmolen, a beautiful grain mill from 1797 that has recently been restored. You can visit this mill for free on the first Sunday and the third Saturday of the month between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
For children, there is an adventurous play forest, hidden among the trees, with play elements designed by willow artist Will Beckers. You can find this play area between junctions 146 and 147. In Kattenbos, you will experience a unique mix of nature, adventure, and educational moments!
