Between castle and chapel: Traces of the past in the Zwalm valley

The Zwalmbeekpad walk is a very beautiful walk that we extend here with an extra loop to Roborst.

To allow for a stopover at one of the restaurants and cafes along the Zwalm river, we choose to start at the N415 in Munkzwalm, where the route crosses the road. Because the route passes the Sint-Denis-Boekel station, it's also accessible by train.

The description therefore starts between hiking junctions 66 and 67 .

Soon we'll arrive at the Bocclo Wine Estate, planted in 2018. Those who wish can deviate a little further from the route to visit the St. Margaret's Chapel and the pillory of the Wijlegem estate.

The peace square of Sint-Denis-Boekel with the church and the statue of the glove maker is worth the detour.

From here, it's downhill. We continue walking to Sint-Denijs-Boekel station, where there are a few restaurants and cafes.

We descend further to the Zwalmbeek stream. Here stood the Ter Biestmolen mill, which now houses a restaurant.

We walk upstream along the Zwalmbeek stream to the Yserkotmolen and, a little further on , the Klein Zwitserland Inn. Further on lies the beautiful Vredeskapel (Peace Chapel). The Zwalmmolen is the last watermill on our walk.

We continue to follow the Zwalmbeek, which has now become somewhat narrower.

Caution: at junction 95 we deviate from the Zwalmbeekpad: we take another loop to Robost with its castle and Romanesque church on the picturesque village square.

We now climb further through the open fields to the starting point.
