The lake of Virelles is a semi-natural pond near Chimay in the 'boot of Hainaut'.
In the originally marshy area, a dike was built in 1580 to provide water for the wheel of the forge, thus initiating the creation of a large pond.
Today, this pond, covering an area of 125 hectares, is a nature reserve connected to a nature experience center called Aquascope.

The walk around the lake passes through a beautiful mixed forest, along a nature reserve of wet hayfields with wide orchids in spring, and alongside the exceptionally beautiful river Eau Blanche.
