Strolling along windmills and chapels

Discover on this journey where watermills are hidden in the landscape of Mere, where windmills have disappeared, and other windmills have been planted in the landscape. Often the mill wheels have come to a standstill or have vanished.

On your walk, you will discover how the different neighborhoods were connected by roads that were hardly wide enough for a wheelbarrow. Some were mill paths along which a farmer would walk with a sack of grain to have it milled. A number of watermills were adapted to new techniques, only to eventually stop all activity. Only one converted watermill, that of Bambrugge, remains active to this day, albeit as an industrial mill.

But this walking route does not only lead past watermills; you will also come across beautiful chapels that are part of the Rosary procession, a pilgrimage route that lies in the landscape like a paternoster and is still walked during the month of May.
