'The Heritage-Good-Route'

This thematic bike tour (47.5 km) provides historical information, local legends, and juicy anecdotes that took place along the route in the 'Bachten de Kupe' polders. You will pass by valuable historical farms, tiny rural villages, and through the beautiful IJzerbroeken. The new bike brochure will be available for free starting in May at, among other places, the tourist offices of the municipalities within the Regional Landscape IJzer & Polder and at the Flemish visitor center 'De Otter'.

The Heritage Route is part of the project 'Heritage on my Heritage' by Proclam vzw, which extends over 2010. The project aims to present West Flanders' agricultural heritage in all its facets to a wide audience. The focus here is on the interconnection with nature, which is hidden in this heritage. The kickoff took place on Heritage Day, April 25. The Tanghe family of the protected farm De Grote Fockewerve in Alveringem opened its gates for one day. An impressive 700 people showed up. Following this successful opening, this temporary themed bike route will run from May until the end of September.

The route utilizes the bike route network of Westtoer and is an initiative of the Regional Landscapes IJzer & Polder in collaboration with Proclam vzw and the cultural service of the municipality of Alveringem.
