Bornem

The Scheldt is engaged in a constant battle with the sea downstream from Ghent. Tides leave their mark twice a day. The effects of the sea and flooding have meant that the Scheldt has not always stayed in its banks.
Thus, Weert suddenly found itself on the right bank in 1240. The surroundings of the Old Scheldt form a beautiful piece of nature that you can see from all sides on this tour.
DEPARTURE POINT
You can reach the church in Bornem via the N16 Sint-Niklaas - Willebroek.
PARKING LOT
You can reach the Achterweide parking lot by taking a left onto Kapelstraat at the market. At the end, turn right. At the next intersection, go briefly left to follow Kloosterstraat on your right.
After 100 meters, you can park right onto Achterweidestraat. Walk along this street and you will reach the path by the Sint-Jozef clinic (Kasteelstraat). On Mondays, there is a market in Achterweidestraat and you need to park further up in Kloosterstraat (Sint-Bernardusabdij).
TYPE OF ROAD
Until the church of Weert, there are gravel and earthen paths as well as grass paths; further on, asphalt, cobblestone, and clinker paths

Impossible for strollers and wheelchairs.
