Bruges alternative hike

This is a walk away from the usual tourist route. Besides the major attractions, Bruges has many hidden corners (including Bruges West, Gezellekwartier, Sint-Gillis...) that we would like to introduce to you along the way. We begin our walk at 't Zand and start in Smedenstraat. We turn right into Kammakerstraat, where we pass through a small gate at the level of Kapel Blindekens and enter Kreupelenstraat, where we turn left. We return to Smedenstraat, turn right, and continue through Smedenpoort. Just behind Smedenpoort, we choose the Buiten Boeverievest to walk along the outside of the Bruges fortifications. At the end, we turn left and walk left along Hendrik Consciencelaan to the first street on the right (Van Voldenstraat). Here we arrive at Boeveriestraat, at the level of the bell tower with the Dumery bell. We turn left into Boeveriestraat (the Godelieve Abbey is on the right and the Capuchin church on the left). This takes us to 't Zand, where we walk along the concert hall and turn right onto the walking path. We stay left and turn towards 't Capucientje, where we reach a small square to enter Westmeers and turn left there. On the right, we choose Sint-Obrechtstraat and turn right into Oostmeers after the square. We walk to Wevershof on the left (access to the street is built upon). Wevershof is a project with neighborhood garages and exits for the city gardens of the adjacent residents. At the end, we reach a square from where we access Zonnekenmeers through a covered gate. In this street, we see an open gate on the opposite side to the right. We pass through and arrive at Sint-Janssite. We walk along the water, turn right, and at the end, before the buildings, turn left to reach the exit and arrive at the OLV church. We pass the church, cross a stone bridge and walk across the square to Gruuthuusestraat. We follow Dijver on the right (past the buildings of the European College), turn left to Wollestraat, left to Karthuizerinnenstraat (with a military chapel and at the end an arch). In Oude Burg, we turn left, then right into Sint-Niklaasstraat, which ends in Steenstraat. We cross Steenstraat and continue our path in Kleine Sint-Amandsstraat. At the square, we choose to go right towards the market. Here we turn left and after the market, we reach Eiermarkt. We walk along Eiermarkt and thus arrive at Kuiperstraat, until we turn right into J. Van Ooststraat directly in front of the theater. We cross Vlamingstraat and go to Kraanplein, where we come in from the right through a small passage into Ieperstraat, which leads into Cordoeanierstraat. We continue straight and turn left shortly before the end along the little houses attached to the Protestant chapel 't Keerske. This brings us to Philip Stockstraat. We follow the street left, turn right onto Malleberg square, and then follow Hoogstraat to the left. We turn right into Peerdenstraat, left into Groenerei, left across the bridge, and again left into Predikherenstraat, further left into Langestraat and follow the bridge to the right of Verversdijk (again with buildings of the European College). We take the bridge on the right and go straight to Sint-Annakerk. We stay to the right of the church and go to Jeruzalemstraat (with the church of the same name), choosing Peperstraat at the fork and at the new fork left into Stijn Streuvelsstraat. Turn left into Albrecht Rodenbachstraat, go left into Hugo Verrieststraat, and turn right into Rolweg, where you pass by the Guido Gezelle museum. At Kruisvest, you turn left and see the mills at the Bruges fortifications. Kruisvest changes its name to Peterseliestraat. Here, you might consider taking a break at "De verloren hoek" or "De windmolen." We continue on our way and turn left into Oliebaan in Peterseliestraat (to the right behind the high walls are the meadows of Groot Seminario) and left into Hemelrijck, a very primitive street in Bruges city center, where the open meadows of the hotel school Spermalie are on the right. Turn right into Snaggaardstraat and choose left into Speelmansstraat, go straight to the short Speelmansstraat and at the end turn right again into Rolweg. Right into Jeruzalemstraat. Left into Blekerstraat, where you will pass Café Vlissinge roughly in the middle on the left side. At the end, we turn right and immediately left over the bridge into Gouden Handrei. We then go right over the next bridge and again right into Gouden Handstraat. Choose left into Sint-Gilliskerkstraat, left into Lange Raamstraat, left into Sint-Gillisdorpstraat, turn right into Noord-Gistelhof, left into West-Gistelhof, and at the end, turn right along Augustijnenrei. At the intersection with Vlamingstraat/Sint-Jorisstraat, turn right. We follow Sint-Jorisstraat until we can turn left into Kalkovenstraat, and at the fork, we follow the right into Schuttersstraat, which is renamed Hugo Losschaertstraat. This street leads into Ezelstraat at the square with the busts of Achiel Van Acker, once Prime Minister of Belgium, and where the Ryelandtzaal is also located. A little to the left, we choose right into Sledestraat, turn left into Raamstraat, turn left into Zakske, and right into Ezelstraat. We choose left into Boterhuis, bringing us to Naaldenstraat, which we follow to the right until Ezelstraat, where we turn right this time. To the left, we follow the first narrow street (Palmstraatje), bringing us to Geerwijnstraat. Here we turn right and cross the Lion's Bridge to Oude Zak, where we turn left. At Dr. Sebrechts Park, we go through the park, arriving at Beenhouwersstraat, where we turn left and finally right into Speelmansrei. Thus, we return to our starting point at 't Zand.
