Who is Leon Segers?

Leon Segers is a fictional character created as a witness of the First World War. He was born in Ploegsteert, on the Franco-Belgian border. His parents grew tobacco plants and ran a café but owing to his curious nature Leon was attracted to journalism as a profession.
When the war broke out he remained in unoccupied Belgium from where he observed the events of the war. His grandparents lived in Roeselare and experienced the occupation there. After the war Leon had the opportunity to listen to their stories and anecdotes. Owing to his inquisitive nature, he set off to cycle through the city to look for the remnants of the war in this urban setting and the stories they concealed.
