The nature trail in the Meerdaalwoud starts at the reception area De Speelberg in Sint-Joris-Weert (Oud-Heverlee) (Weertse dreef No. 25). There are three routes (4.8 km - 7.9 km - 15.2 km) and all three run 100% through one of the most beautiful forest areas in Flanders. The Meerdaalwoud is an ancient forest that formed after the last ice age about 10,000 years ago. It has never been cleared.

The short loop is almost flat, but both longer loops include some steep climbs. The steepest is the ascent to Tomberg. Justice was served at this clearing in the forest during the Middle Ages. The two long loops pass through the semi-open, small-scale agricultural area between the Heverleebos and the Meerdaalwoud, offering magnificent views as you jog along the majestic Herculesdreef. You also run past the beautifully maintained vineyards (over 10 hectares) of Chardonnay Meerdael.

For the children who are jogging along, the play forest, the barbecue area, and the bivouac area - all not far from the start - are places they will certainly want to return to later. Everyone who takes their trash home and keeps their car out of the forest is welcome.
