Binche can remind you mainly of the carnival, but you can also walk through a beautiful landscape with rolling fields and here and there a slag heap: remnants of mining in the area.
Binche is best known for its Gilles and its centenary carnival. But you can also take miles of walks in a still very rural and quiet area, especially along line 422 of the RAVeL, located on the former tram platform between two important cities of Hainaut: the medieval Binche and the industrial city of La Louvière. RAVeL stands for Réseau Autonome des Voies Lentes, the Walloon equivalent of our Slow Roads.
The landscape is characterized by gently sloping fields and slag heaps scattered here and there, witnesses of more than two hundred years of mining that ended in the sixties of the last century. Head to the Sainte-Marie church in Péronnes-lez-Binche, a district of Binche. For GPS in the car: Place de Péronnes in Binche.
