Description by the author

Panoramic circular route through fabulously wild landscapes! Behind every bend in the road, this tour surprises with new impressions and overwhelming landscapes despite its brevity. Shortly after the start, a first, breathtaking panorama opens up to Reinhardstein Castle (also known as Metternich Castle), which towers high above the valley of the Warche. The complex, which is unique in Belgium today, was built in 1354 for Count Wenceslas of Luxembourg by his vassal Reinhard von Weimes, belonged to the Count of Nassau until 1550 and passed into the possession of the Metternichs by marriage. After destruction, it was rebuilt in 1969 according to the historical model. A collection of armor, tapestries, liturgical vestments and life-size, hand-carved figures in the rooms of the castle underlines the importance of the place. As the path continues, the lovely landscape gives way to rugged rock formations. The "Nez Napoléon" (Napoleon's nose) is a steep rocky outcrop high above the valley of the Warche. From here it goes down into the valley of the rushing, quite wild river. If you dare to make a detour, you can take a look at the highest waterfall in Belgium, which falls 60 meters down into the Warche Valley right next to Reinhardstein Castle. Finally, we cross the mighty dam wall at Lac de Robertville. Can't be topped? But - if the approximately 6 km are not long enough for you, you can hike as an extension via regional hiking trails and the GR 56 through the valley of the Bayehon to the highest point in Belgium, the Signal de Botrange (694 m) in the High Fens, and also experience the natural environment of this unique raised bog.
