This signposted cycle route introduces us to the rural splendor of Denderleeuw and its surroundings, takes us along the meandering Dender and shows us the diversity of a number of village centers. Due to its convenient location, Denderleeuw is mainly known as a commuter town and does not hint at its pronounced green character. The Wellemeersen is one of the most ecologically valuable nature reserves, while the Welle and Iddergem boroughs are still characterized by large, open agricultural groves. The route name refers to the many inhabitants who earned their living pulling boats along the Dender and were called schiptrekkers, the nickname of the Denderleeuwenaars.
