Description by the author

The Bergse Heide is located in the north of the municipality of Kampenhout. The forests present on the north crescent around this Bergse Heide are along streams: De Zwarte Beek and Keizerikbeek (at Schiplakenbos and Terlinden reserve), the Bergbeek and leibeek (at the Steentjesbos), and the Barebeek (at the Snijsselsbos). These streams have traditionally been the municipal boundary of the surrounding (sub)municipalities, so that with this loop we also enter the most beautiful adjacent green areas (and forest areas) of these municipalities:
-->Zemst (Elewijt: Schiplakenbos);
-->Boortmeerbeek (Schiplaken: Schiplakenbos, Terlinden nature reserve and Steentjesbos);
-->Kampenhout (Bergse Heide and Bulsom: Steentjesbos);
-->Steenokkerzeel (books: Snijsselsbos).

This loop is 13.2 km long and is situated as a west-north-east sickle of these 3 forests around the Bergse Heide.

The GPS routing of the loop itself can start in Elewijt at the end of the dead-end Anjelierenstraat (side street of the Vekestraat) and then runs via a footpath north in clockwork clockwise to the Schiplakenbos from where you can immediately immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of this loop. You can of course start your loop in any other place.
The start of the signed GPS routing is at the church of Weerde and uses some little-known and newly constructed slow roads in Elewijt to get to the Anjelierenstraat (= the first point of the loop Bergse Heidebossen). This tail from Weerde is 2.1km single (4.2km round trip).
If you want to leave and arrive at the church in Weerde you have covered 17.4 km.

Particularities of this loop:

General:
-->Between and south of these forests you have very extensive fields, fields and meadows, which gives you beautiful and flat views.
The loop therefore offers sun-warmth all day on its east-south-west flank of the forests: Ideal for a winter or mid-season where you want to experience the sun. Or for the people who like to be sheltered from cold winter north or east winds (the selected trails provide shelter from these cold winter winds for the most part). With the many open spaces between the forests, this loop offers you an unparalleled variety of forest experience and open spaces.
-->This loop you are definitely the most quiet and peaceful in the wide area. No overloaded forests with recreationists, no car or other unnatural noise (not even in the background), and it is practically traffic-free.
In short: it is an immersion in nature and relaxing! 95% of the paths are car-free (slow roads are cut in Elewijt), and except for a few small parts, the vast majority of these forest and field roads are paved so that you do not have to plod through the deep mud.

Some specific locations/sights (see also the POIs):
-->In the first forest (Schiplakenbos) you pass the beautiful Schiplaken castle, with appurtenances and beautiful old trees, around which the water of the Zwarte Beek is led.
-->During this loop, some beautiful beauties are also visible (Sint-Isidorushoeve with beautiful bricked-in Mariakapelle, a lost house with many fairytale figures in the garden, beautiful and old trees, ...).
-->We also pass a three-municipality point on the loop where the municipalities of Zemst, Boortmeerbeek and Kampenhout meet in 1 point (See POI under the Schiplakenbos), even by the inhabitants a little-known location.

Remark:
The paths of this loop are not documented anywhere in a number of places (NGI maps, local signs, OpenStreet maps, ...). So print this loop or charge the GPX in your smartphone or GPS device. The routing of this loop has been checked several times by my high-quality GPS recorder.
