Zondereigen is the textbook example of a quiet Kempisch rural village. As "the hidden gem of Baarle-Hertog", this village is entirely in Belgium, containing the only enclave of Baarle-Nassau that is really in the Belgian country.

Zondereigen, already mentioned in the history books in 1251 because of a "border incident", is located in a rural area with many agricultural and horticultural companies and beautiful nature reserves through which the river 't Merkske and the Noorder-Mark meander. In short: the ideal place to stay for the holidaymaker who is looking for peace and quiet.

The core of Zondereigen consists of two streets that intersect at the church. The buildings are mainly concentrated along these two streets. Gel, Geheul, Heikant, Lipseinde, Ginhove and Strikkeweg are the hamlets of Zondereigen. The St. Rumoldus church is equipped with beautiful stained glass windows by the glazier Jan Huet.

The annual nativity scene with live animals at this church is very worthwhile. Around a burning wood stove you can relax while enjoying a warming drink and a snack.
