This walk has its origins in a medieval pilgrimage route, the “kapellekesweg.” With the famous Kruisborre chapel as the first in a series of chapels. The chapel from 1622 is protected heritage. The other chapels were later donated by pilgrims. A few years ago, all chapels received a thorough restoration.

The walk starts at the Hopmarkt in Asse. Hops play a significant role in the history and folklore of this municipality in the northern foothills of Pajottenland. Once, the landscape in the region was dotted with hop fields. Now, symbolically, only a few strips remain. The hopduvelfeasts and the biennial hopduvel parade keep the folklore in Asse alive.

The landscape is very hilly, with plenty of greenery and expansive panoramas. Be prepared for a few steep climbs, which together amount to exactly 101 meters of elevation. Also, bring sturdy hiking shoes as some paths have a somewhat adventurous character. And the fact that the roads and paths are a favored terrain for mountain bikers does not help their condition.
