Description par l'auteur

Corona walk 1 Zedelgem: This route was used for implementation in the 'Routeyou' use.

The initial route is a collaboration between the municipality of Zedelgem and walking club '4 op 1 rij'.

Thanks to both parties.

(9km)

The route is no longer marked.

In this first corona-walk, the new Ockerhout forest and the expansive Vloethemveld are central. The route is 9km long and is marked with yellow fluorescent arrows with the above black logo on it. You can explore this walk at any time, the arrows remain up until.

Ascension Day, May 21 to Friday, June 12. From Saturday, June 13, a new corona walk will be marked.

We request that everyone adheres to the rules set by the National Security Council.

Maintain a distance of 1.5m between different people who do not belong to the same household.

Groups of max. 20 persons

This walk was approved by the municipality of Zedelgem and by the agency “Nature and Forest”.

Description

For this walk, you can start at 2 locations: the parking lot of the service center “De Braambeier”, Loppemsestraat 14a in Zedelgem, or at the new POV parking along the Diksmuidse Heirweg in Zedelgem.

We leave the parking lot to the right (towards Loppem) and follow this for 150m before entering the quiet Hollebeekstraat on the left. At the end of this street, we walk into the unpaved Stakedreef to enter the new Ockerhout forest a bit further right via a narrow path. This new piece of forest was planted in 2017 on the lands of

Laurentius van Ockerhout, who had an estate in the area. He wanted to make it a mini-Versailles where people would come from near and far to see.

The beautiful avenue leads to the Brugse Heirweg, which used to be part of the well-known Roman road that connected Boulogne-sur-Mer in Northern France with the Dutch Aardenburg.

Via some quiet avenues and paths, we now walk towards the splendid Vloethemveld. This area used to be low-lying and flooded during heavy rain, hence the name "Vloethem". This is clearly visible at the point where we enter the Polderdreef as we descend into the forest reserve. During this corona walk, we explore the easternmost part of the area. Make sure to follow the markings closely.

About halfway through the forest passage, the route passes a heavy gate behind which lies the old barracks of the prisoner-of-war camp that sheltered 100,000 prisoners during WWII. Mainly Germans and people from the Baltic states stayed here for several months. This zone is only accessible by request for groups.

The route continues along the beautiful avenues until you pass the 2nd starting location along the Diksmuidse Heirweg. The route goes straight through the extensive new play area before you reach the Vloethemveld site. You now follow this beautiful walking and cycling path for 1.3km. To the right, you have a nice view of the 14th-century Gothic parish church of Zedelgem.

When we leave the old military railway, we walk through a neighborhood and soon take a surprising slice along the “Plaatsebeek”. Wide winding grassy paths bring us back to our starting point after 9km; the Braambeier.

We hope everyone enjoyed this walk, which was created in collaboration with the municipality of Zedelgem and with the agency for “Nature & Forest”.

Keep the following in mind:

Stay 1.5m apart.

Groups may walk with a maximum of 20 people.

Take care of the nature of Zedelgem.

Dogs on a leash in the forest and nature.

Please do not leave any waste behind.
