In the beautiful rural village of Escanaffles, commonly known as Schalafie, near Avelgem and just over the language border, Natuurpunt, in collaboration with Walloon nature associations, has joined forces to create a nature reserve with regional biodiversity in this young nature area. The area covers 10 hectares and consists of wet grassland, reed marsh, and wet scrub, unique to the region. This nature area was officially opened and inaugurated in May 2019. This GPS version is a combination of the red walk (2.3 km) and the blue walk (8.1 km). The blue walk follows waypoints: 10-9-83-8-13-38-35-10, departing towards the Schelde. Parking is available at the cemetery on Rue du Vivier, Celles. I had expected a bit more nature (unpaved) because a Ravel is more like a cycling highway and perhaps busier traffic in good weather, but it is wide enough for walkers and cyclists.
