Discover all benefitsThis walking route leads along the panels in the center of the city of Aarschot with photographic images from World War II. During World War II, Aarschot was heavily bombed by both the Germans and the Allies. Although the initial target was the railway facilities, other neighborhoods in the city were also affected. Therefore, most panels show the devastating violence of the bombs. Some panels discuss the liberation and the celebrations. The text on the panels can mostly be found here among the sights.
But along the walking path, there are more places with stories: feed beets in the city park, trenches on Elisabethlaan, partisans in the Grecht, poker at the Demerhotel... You can read these during your walk via the RouteYou app on your smartphone or you can download the description via this link.
Start and End Point:
The walk is a loop and there is no logical order to the stories. You can therefore join in at any point. Would you like more information? Then it's probably best to start at Tourism Aarschot.

In this context, two richly illustrated brochures were published. 'Forgiven, yes. Forgotten, never' guides the reader through about 100 pages along 39 monuments and remarkable places from Aarschot’s wartime history. The publication ‘ XXIst and XXIInd a/b Jewish Transport Langdorp July 31, 1943 - September 20, 1943’, by author Paul De Keulenaer, is a lasting reminder of the Jewish transports that exceptionally passed through Langdorp. While supplies last, you can pick up these brochures for free at the Tourism Office of Aarschot.
