A walk from the site 'Original Walks', difficulty level 1 block. Flat walk through green and wooded areas of Provincial Green Domain Hertberg with sandy paths and grassy trails that are sometimes overgrown. The Rode Laak is one of the streams around Laakdal but owes its name to the rusty brown color due to the high iron content. Forest reserve Varendonk was until 2003 the hunting grounds of the princes of Merode and the forest Helschot gave writer Willem Elsschot his pseudonym because he enjoyed long walks there. Parking and departure from the parking lot of Tavern 't Laak (closed on Thursdays) in Veerle-Laakdal along the N127, Grote Steenweg 12. There is a camper parking nearby for those who want to stay a bit longer, at the corner of Diestse Baan and Witputstraat (GPS house number 17).
