Merendree flaunts an impressive belt of castles, with Ten Walle Castle, Melderen Castle and Velde Castle or the "pink castle. The climb up the Molenberg (node 55) requires some effort, but the summit offers an impressive view of the Oude Kalevallei nature reserve. In Hansbeke, you can't ignore the blue and white shutters that refer to the village's castle past.
