In the initial kilometers of this Rock Werchter route, you cycle along the canal, where a wide bike path followed by a car-free towpath invites you to speed up. But do try to pause for a moment under the motorway bridge, where one of the most original fitness centers in our country is located. In Open Gym, all the equipment and sports structures are made from recycled materials, from cobblestones to worn-out tires. How about training those arm muscles before you hop back on the bike?

A bit further on, past the striking tower of starch producer Remy, you pass through the charming village center of Wijgmaal. And five kilometers later, it looks even cozier in Wakkerzeel, which rightly made a play for the title of the most beautiful village in Flanders a few years ago.

When you reach the bike path along the banks of the Dijle, you greet a statue of Father Damien. Not far from here, his birthplace is set up as a museum. But the official turning point of this route is Werchter, where it is particularly quiet without stages and thousands of music fans. Still, you can gather some memories at the experience center Rock Werchter X thanks to an animated overview exhibition.

Past the Plas van Rotselaar, where swimming is allowed on warm days, less enjoyable kilometers follow. The nearby donjon of Ter Heyden may make visitors daydream of a fairy tale world, but otherwise, be on the lookout for heavy traffic while crossing large roads. Only upon entering Kessel-Lo, where you pass by the Provincial Domain among other places, does a wide bike path lead you back to the center of Leuven.
