Canada's 'Route 66'

When you think of Route 66, you immediately think of America. Route 66 is one of the most famous highways in America, crossing various states and beautiful nature reserves during your journey. However, Canada also has a similar, but slightly less well-known experience. At least less known, until now. In this article we take you through the beautiful sights that the Trans-Canada Highway (Canada's Route 66) has to offer.

Before you start your journey

Before you can start your journey in Canada, it is important to have a valid ETA . The ETA is a travel authorization for Canada that allows you to visit the country for a continuous period of up to 6 months for tourist purposes such as a holiday, road trip or city trip. The ETA is also valid for 5 years. This gives you more than enough time to travel to Canada more often. Having a good (rental) car for your trip is also an absolute must-have. Before you leave, orient yourself well and preferably choose a good and economical car. This is not only better for the environment, but also saves you the necessary fuel costs.

The Trans Canada Highway

The Trans Canada Highway is a 7,821 kilometer long highway that takes you from Western Canada to Eastern Canada. The main route of the highway starts in Victoria (British Columbia) and ends in Saint John's (province of Newfoundland and Labrador). During your journey you will also cross the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. This makes it one of the longest highways in the world, so you will really have to take the time to travel the entire route and see all the beauty that this route has to offer.

The route takes you past various (snow-capped) mountain peaks, beautiful nature reserves and turquoise lakes. You will also pass many historic towns and beautiful villages. You can visit:

Banff National Park (characterized by its beautiful waterfalls and quiet lakes)

Quebec City (a city full of skylines and historic buildings);

Charlottetown (the scenic capital of Canada's smallest province: Victoria Row);

Gros Morne National Park (landscape of mountains, fjords and waterfalls. This place is widely loved by hikers and whale watchers and is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List)

The Prairies (mainly in the provinces of Winnipeg, Regina and Calgary)

The coast (you drive along various coasts, beaches and lakes of Canada via the highway)

And of course, don't forget, the Rocky Mountains . One of the most famous and photographed parts of the TCH.

All sights

Which sights you want to see depends on how long you want to follow the route. There are many sights next to the TCH that are definitely worth a visit. You can also choose to stay longer in some places before continuing the route. Anyone who wants to drive the Trans-Canada Highway is recommended to check the route before departure and make a note of which sights you want to see (and where you might want to stay longer). There are
there are too many to mention. Good preparation is half the battle!

Would you like to experience Canada's Route 66 with your own eyes? Then map out your route before departure and write down all the places you would like to visit. Don't forget to apply for an ETA for Canada before departure. Otherwise you will be refused at the airport and you will not be allowed to travel to Canada.

Last, but certainly not least, don't forget to bring your mobile phone or camera and enough chargers to charge your equipment during your stay. The sights of the THC are certainly worth revisiting later or sharing with your friends, acquaintances, colleagues and family.
