Astrid, Queen of the Belgians, died here at the age of 29 in a car accident, in 1935. The king lost control of the car. The couple took a holiday here incognito under the name Renard. The queen was thrown from the car and catapulted into a tree. A severe head injury killed her instantly. Along with the queen died her unborn fourth child, while her other children were at home.
