The island of Salagnon is a small islet in Switzerland located on Lake Geneva, in front of the Basset port, in the territory of the Vaud municipality of Montreux, Switzerland.
Until the very end of the 19th century, the few rocks emerging from the lake in front of the Basset bay were known as the "bee hive for seagulls." It was then that engineer Joseph d'Allinges, tasked with the construction of the French part of the Tonkin line, had excavation materials from the Meillerie tunnel dumped there to create a new artificial island covering an area of 1,120 m2, located 15 meters from the shore. The name Salagnon, given by Joseph d'Allinges, comes from the salt of Burgundy, of the same name, which was cleared in Clarens before continuing its route to Valais. It is also referred to as the "Swan Island" or "Rat Island."
