The Pont sur le Rhône is a stone bridge over the Rhône from Saint-Maurice in the canton of Valais to Bex in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is located in a gorge formed by a glacier gate that blocks the Rhône valley. The bridge is dominated by the Château de Saint-Maurice, which controlled the passage.
According to some, the abutments of this bridge date back to Roman times, but this is not the case. It was built in 1491 by Jean Paniot during the episcopacy of Jost de Silenen or Jodoc de Syllinen. An important consolidation was carried out in 1523 under the direction of Ulrich Ruffiner.
