It is located on the right-hand side of the Rhone, deep in the little Lienne-Valley, at the foot of the Rawyl pass and stands 156 meters tall. In 1957, the dam was put into service for the first time. Its catchment basin occupies 18,7 square kilometers and is situated at 1,777 m.a.s.l. Numerous hikes around the lake are possible
