The Lötschen Pass is considered to be the oldest link between the cantons of Valais and Bern and it is still frequented by many hikers today. The spectacular panorama of the 4000-metre Valais peaks is a worthy reward for the difficult climb. The Lötschen Pass is situated in a region of considerable geological interest but also boasts a wealth of exceptional flora and fauna. Either take the cable car from Wiler or walk up to Lauchernalp (1h30), then follow the signs to the Lötschen Pass. Following a break at the Lötschen Pass hut, you can either rejoin the Gaster Valley by hiking past the Lötsche Glacier and following the valley to Kandersteg from where you can embark for Bern or Brig, or continue towards Kummenalp with a view of the Bietschorn, until reaching Goppenstein. Both routes offer rail connections to Brig or Bern.
