Border hiking trail In the footsteps of the red wood ant - Sohland on the Spree

The hiking trail "In the Footsteps of the Red Wood Ant" starts just before the car crossing Sohland/Sluknov (CR) and leads directly along the border of both countries to the Tourist Border Crossing Steinigtwolmsdorf/Lobendava. It meanders always slightly uphill, allowing you to experience the mountainous landscape in all its fascination and silence. The trail offers not only a pure hiking experience over 12.5 km, but also diverse opportunities for educational excursions, nature observations, and relaxation. A variety of exhibits on topics of forest protection, botany, and geology await the hiker. This border hiking trail is a joint effort of Czech and German actors and is also unique in the bilingual nature of the exhibits. Nine rest huts along the trail with names that match the location (such as Pascherhütte, Almhütte, or Zollamthütte) allow for breaks and a picnic from your backpack. The hike can be retraced on the same path, but there is also the option to return to the starting point through the municipality of Steinigtwolmsdorf or the villages of Wehrsdorf or Sohland. In any case, it is worth lacing up your hiking boots, and a visit to one of the good and affordable restaurants in the villages will provide a suitable refreshment after an exciting hike.
