The Tegernsee is a popular and luxurious holiday resort; especially Rottach-Egern is an expensive place with luxury shops and several five-star hotels. The Tegernsee is fed by the Weißach, along with a number of smaller streams. At Gmund am Tegernsee, the Mangfall flows out of the lake to join the Inn at Rosenheim, 58 kilometers further. The lake was formed about 18,000 years ago during the Weichsel glaciation, known as the Würm glaciation in Germany, by the Tegernsee glacier.
