Bacharach was first mentioned in a document in 871. Bacharach has long owed its fame to viticulture and wine trade. Already in the Middle Ages, this city was world-renowned as the main storage place for wine in the Middle Rhine, the Nahe, and the Rheingau. It was one of the best-known wine towns.
