The Berlin Cathedral is one of the most important Protestant church buildings in Germany. The Cathedral consists of a main church and an adjacent baptismal church. Beneath the main church lie the graves of the princes of the House of Hohenzollern. This German princely house developed from counts and electors of the Brandenburg region through dukes and kings of Prussia to eventually the German emperorship.
The church was heavily damaged in 1944. During the Cold War, the Cathedral remained unused. After the fall of the wall, the building was renovated and in 1993 the church was put back into use. Especially the ornate sarcophagi are worth a visit.
