Königswinter is the seat of the Königswinter District Court, which is responsible for the towns of Bad Honnef and Königswinter in the right bank of the Rhine in the Rhein-Sieg district. Around 66,000 people live in the 124 km² judicial district.
The district court goes back to a magistrate's court founded in 1811 after the introduction of the Code civils in the Rhineland. In 1843, his judicial district included the mayorships of Königswinter, Menden and Oberkassel.
