Cafe des Westens was the heart of the modernization after World War I in Berlin. Among his visitors were Ozkar Kokoschka, Paul Klee, Vsilly Kandinsky, Marc Chagall and George Grosz. When in 1920 the owner increased the price of the drinks, everybody moved to the Romantisches Cafe, opposite the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
