Wieserode is located on the road leading from Meisdorf to Harkerode on the southeastern edge of the Harz district in the valley of the Mukarene.
Wieserode was first mentioned in documents in 964 as Witserode. Before the area became part of the County of Falkenstein, it must have been known as Wedderode by de lantwer in Stammerschen in 1295. In 1437, it was documented as Wedderode as a village of Falkenstein. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to Schwabengau, to the County of Falkenstein, and ecclesiastically to the Halberstadt Harzbann. In 1449, the Asseburg family acquired the area, which was deserted at that time. Resettlement took place in 1536 with 20 households. Of these, one was a Freimann, the tavern keeper, while the others were Hintersäße and were subject to rent and feudal obligations to the office.
