Neighboring municipalities, starting from the north in a clockwise direction, are the municipalities of Dingen, Kuden, and Averlak, the city of Brunsbüttel, and the municipality of Ramhusen.
The earliest traces of settlement in Eddelak date back to the Roman imperial period. In 1877, a Germanic flax settlement layer of approximately 6 hectares was archaeologically identified southwest of the village. Numerous ceramic finds temporarily led to assumptions that the settlement was used for pottery production or salt boiling; furthermore, the settlement site has been discussed in the context of the tribal formation of the Saxons, involving the Chauken in research.
